After having my own children, I focused on being a stay at home mom while my kids were young. While staying at home, we decided as a family to become foster parents. I cannot express how many new skills, smiles and growth came from the experiences attached to fostering. Building relationships and trust with whole families, while providing support, are all vitally important if growth is to happen.
As my family grew, I continued to volunteer with children, but this time my kids and my foster kids accompanied me. I have worked in the Kamloops Alliance Church Children’s Ministry and, when my children started school, the opportunity once again opened up to help within the school system as a parent volunteer.
Having spent a number of hours working around children, I understand the importance of: inclusion, support, recognition, culture, and the significance of education.
