In all of us, finding motivation for the things we struggle with can be hard. If a student is struggling with reading, creating mindfulness about the struggle can help the student approach reading with the grit of determination. We have all heard the saying, “a positive attitude goes along way,” (unknown) but putting it into practice is hard work. By celebrating the small steps and modelling positivity we can support students that are learning to read.
Educators can also support emerging readers by promoting their reading fluency and supporting them with materials they can succeed with. Educators can also have students read to, listen to students read, have fluency activities for students and have activities such as choral reading and readers theatre to help teach and model reading fluency.
The video above offers strategies and gives short examples of how to implement them or why they work. Enjoy!
