I think this rubric still needs some adjustment, however, some changes I did make to make it more inclusive were:

  • Use “can do language”
  • Provide opportunity to include triangulated evidence
  • Changed some of the language to the students level of vocabulary
  • Added specifics to enhance clarity of expectations

In order to support all learners, students can use chromebooks, speech to text and utilize spell check.

Because students are journaling their own connections, choice is naturally embedded within the assignment but the students also had a list of possible connections they could search for.

In addition, before the journaling would start a exemplar would be posted with a checklist of things to include.  In this particular group, students worked as a group with some sample entries to establish their own checklist of what should be included in an entry. As a large group the checklist was solidified.

If a student was struggling with all written work, I could have the student draw the connection and then verbally explain it to either myself or a CEA.  We could then scribe for the student or they could use voice to text.
