Why does the snake always curl in the same spot? How is there a salamander 1000 ft above sea level? Why does fish’s gills move like that? Why does the colour of the sky look like that when you can not see the sun?
These are some of the questions we answer as parents and as adults for our children and youth. How we answers matters. Do we shrug them off? Give an grumbled answer? Or, do we celebrate the inquiries and either ask them more questions designed to help the youth uncover the answer.
Helping students learn how to learn and think for themselves is empowerment of our future community members. Educators need to guide and help students but they also need to encourage student exploration in the world around us. These will be the leaders of the future and how we encourage them to be great thinkers, or conversely limit them, affects our future.
